Move Over!

Danica Patrick is a serious race car driver. But she hit a crewman in the pit area over the weekend and, hello, this is one of the pics that ran with the worldwide coverage. Now, I know that she had the pics made and has, I'm sure, accrued a lot a money from the magazines and what not. However, my thought is that if a man hit someone, they wouldn't run their pics from magazine spreads. They would show them sweaty and pulling that helmet off. I'm trying hard to work this link option, so try www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5oe07iQIA You can watch, on you tube, her pull-in to the pit. So many, unfortunately, used the, "woman driver" joke--very tired, but likely to get a laugh. One blogger on my favorite auto site, though, defended her with,

"Indy (and F1) car drivers have very poor visibility; in fact, it is one of the major challenges of driving these vehicles that your eye line is only 18-20" off of the pavement. As she pulled in, her view of the pit area was mostly obstructed by the other pitted car and the crew member standing there with his hand out signaling to the parked driver to hold his position. She developed and committed to her trajectory based on what she saw and she likely could not have even seen Buckman (the man she struck). "

So, where does this all leave me on my opinion piece here, "War is Hell, and so is Race Car Driving".
